Westford, MA., and Salt Lake City, Utah., October, 6th, 2008 – Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS), a market leader in IP communications infrastructure, and FirstDigital, a leading provider of next-generation network solutions, today announced the availability of new services to FirstDigital customers through the deployment of digital signal technology from Sonus Networks.

To enable FirstDigital customers to increase their call processing and faxing capability without increasing their bandwidth, FirstDigital has chosen the Sonus Network Border Switch (NBS), which offers carrier class IP-peering and a strong layer of security. FirstDigital will take advantage of the peering and advanced transcoding capabilities that Sonus allows to be built directly into the gateway, streamlining the switching of traffic between IP-networks and simplifying network management.

Today, carriers are looking for ways to increase revenues and lower operational costs as they roll out advanced, IP-based services. The Sonus solution will allow FirstDigital to offer the newest technologies without major infrastructure build-outs by re-encapsulating and compressing the voice packets,” says Chris Modesitt, FirstDigital’s Chief Information officer. “This new functionality will also allow FirstDigital to maintain Quality of Service standards that our customers have come to expect.”

FirstDigital is emerging as one of Utah’s leading suppliers of pure IP telephony and is driven by developing innovative networks to enhance the customer experience.
“FirstDigital is ambitious to generate new services for its customers and differentiate its offerings with market leading IP-services,” commented Mohammed Shanableh, vice president of global sales at Sonus Networks. “A close relationship with Sonus enables FirstDigtial to grow and develop its network to remain at the forefront of its competition and rapidly deliver cost effective, robust and secure services to its most demanding enterprise customers.”
