PROVO, Utah – Jan. 16 – FirstDigital, a leading Utah telecommunications provider for both residential and business customers, recently announced that their customers who have signed up for Netflix will be able to watch content in Super HD and 3D at no additional cost.

Last Sept., Netflix partnered with FirstDigital to enable FirstDigital to store 80 percent of Netflix’s popular content on its own servers. As a “Preferred Partner” of Netflix, FirstDigital customers enjoy increased speeds, quality and now for the first time Super HD and 3D content. Because Netflix shares its hardware design and open source software components with FirstDigital, large media files needed for Super HD and 3D are deliverable in a cost effective way. FirstDigital is among a very small percentage of the nation’s Internet Service Providers to provide this service.

Netflix Super HD is now the highest quality video offered by Netflix, which provides an even better picture on 1080p HDTV’s. Currently, Netflix is streaming a selection of titles in Super HD. A number of titles from 3net, the joint venture of Sony Corporation, Discovery Communications and IMAX Corporation, are now available in 3D to FirstDigital customers.

Netflix Super HD is available on PS3, WiiU, Windows 8, Roku, Apple TVs with 1080p and select smart TVs and Blu-Ray players with more devices coming soon.

“With 23 million Netflix subscribers streaming video, we wanted to give our customers the best network to watch their favorite shows,” said Chris Modesitt, FirstDigital’s chief information officer. “We are constantly looking for opportunities to provide personalized service to our loyal customers, and this is the perfect fit.”

Nearly 30 percent of the bandwidth used across the U.S. can be attributed to Netflix or other types of streaming video outlets. As an instant play partner, FirstDigital is now storing as much as 80 percent of Netflix’s most popular content on its own server, including recently added films, popular movies and the latest TV shows.
