Local Telecom Provider Extends Food Drive Contest to Customers Online
Provo, Utah – December 14, 2011 – FirstDigital, a leading Utah telecommunications provider, will deliver more than 2,000 food items to Utah Food Bank, concluding its first-ever Facebook Food Drive. For every “like” earned on FirstDigital’s Facebook page between November 21 and December 8, the company committed to donate two food items to the statewide charity.
Using social media, FirstDigital sought the involvement of its statewide customers to help stock Utah Food Bank’s shelves in preparation for the holiday season. The organization provides donations to 154 emergency food pantries and agencies across the state.
“FirstDigital chose to do a Facebook Food Drive because it is a simple way for community members to support Utah Food Bank when Utah families need it most,” said Drew Peterson, CEO of FirstDigital. “At FirstDigital, we’ve always maintained a local focus and we continually look for innovative ways to support the communities we provide services to.”
Last fiscal year, Utah Food Bank distributed 33.3 million pounds of food, the equivalent of over 23 million meals for families and individuals in need. FirstDigital’s donations will provide immediate assistance to families throughout the state, not just within the Salt Lake City area.
